The 2023 general election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would soon be provided with the guidelines in the space of ten months.
INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made this known when he welcomed a delegation from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in Abuja and informed the guest that the regulations and guidelines would be set almost a year before the election date.
He pointed out that proper voting will start in February 2022, which is an indication that the electoral commission plans to release the guidelines before the end of April.
The commission’s chairman recalled that in 2019, the commission was constrained by time due to the uncertainty that trailed the electoral legal framework.
