Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State, has made some disdainful remarks towards the Abdulrasheed Bawa-led administration as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Governor Bello said EFCC has been telling lies over one N20 billion scandal regarding his administration, accusing the agency of using the judiciary to halt further irregularities or misappropriation of the funds in the account.
On Tuesday, while responding to questions from State House correspondents in Abuja, the Yahaya Bello accused the EFCC of misinterpreting the available facts and painting the image of the state in a negative light.
An Agency report confirmed that Bello revealed that EFCC didn’t no ze any e’s salary account “No Kogi State Government’s salary account is frozen. None whatsoever. None of our accounts is frozen or embargo placed on any of our accounts by EFCC at all.”
The Governor said on the part of the anti-corruption agency, the claims made must either be a joke taken too far or some form of misrepresentation.
However, the Governor pointed out that the said bank hosting the account of the state has out-rightly disregarded any allegations of being in the custody of such an account.
Recall that the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court had frozen the Kogi State Governor’s administration’s salary bailout account domiciled in a commercial bank over an alleged N20 billion loan obtained from it.
It was reported in recent times that the court froze the Kogi State Government’s account following an ex parte application brought by the EFCC, pending the conclusion of the investigation or possible prosecution.
The Counsel to the EFCC, Abass Muhammed, during the process, informed the court that the order was necessary to preserve the funds in the account till the truth is unravelled.
