Yabatech Shuts Hostels Over New Death

The Yaba College of Technology, Yabatech, has announced the death of Mr M.A.O Omoighe, who was the College Director, Academic Planning Unit, , due to COVID-19 complications.

It also ordered all students of the institution to immediately move out of the hotels latest Thursday, January 28, 2021.

Yabatech recommendations for new learning modalities

The medical centre of the institution was also shut down for two weeks. Those who may have had direct contact with the deceased were told to immediately take themselves for COVID-19 tests and also isolate themselves.

Lecturers were also told to immediately move on with online lectures. They were also instructed to make lecture notes available to the students beforehand.

This makes Yabatech the latest school after the Lagos State University, LASU, to take drastic measures to suppress the spread of COVID-19 after the infection was detected within the academic area.

In a related development, the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has threatened to shut down orientation camps across the country because of COVID-19 fears due to the propensity to violate guidelines.
