About 25 women have been sent out of Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State for protesting the arrest of some young cultists in the village. The women in question reportedly accused the traditional ruler of their community, Igwe Chris Onyekwuluje, of using the police to harass and intimidate their sons and husbands. They took their protest to Anambra State government house in Awka.

However, the monarch condemned their actions and said that their protest means they support the activities of the arrested cultists. He warned the rest of the community to cease interactions with those women. Anyone found violating his order will be dealt properly as stipulated by tradition.

Igwe Chris Onyekwuluje lamented that he always did everything in his power to make sure the existing peace in the community remained the same. He explained that this is the reason he always avoided press conferences.

However, he was greatly displeased by the actions of those women and insisted that it means they are in support of the cultists and cult activities in the area. He added that there is a possibility they are the ones sponsoring the cults in the area. He however reminded the women that they can be accepted back into the community if they accept their mistakes and perform the traditional cleansing rites.
