Wolves Signs Japan International Hayao Kawabe

English Premier League side Wolves has completed the signing of Japan midfielder Hayao Kawabe from Grasshopper Club Zurich on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The 26-year-old will spend January’s Swiss Super League winter break at Molineux before returning to Zurich on loan for the rest of the season.

Hayao Kawabe Becomes First Japan International to Play for Wolves

Kawabe made his senior Japan debut against South Korea in March 2021 and is Wolves’ first-ever Japanese player. Technical director Scott Sellars said: “Hayao is a player we’ve watched a lot, and he’s done really well this season.” Sellers also said: “He’s an attacking midfield player, very energetic, very busy, and has good quality. He’s really shone at Grasshoppers this year, and he’s one of the main reasons they’re doing so well.”

Since joining Grasshoppers from Sanfrecce Hiroshima before the 2021-22 season, Hayao Kawabe made four appearances for Japan and has made 18 appearances for his club side, he scored four goals and made three assists in 18 appearances.
