Wole Soyinka new book
Popular Nigerian playwright, poet and essayist in the English language, Wole Soyinka has launched a new book.
This is coming 48 years after his two works – ‘The Interpreters’ (1965) and ‘Season of Anomy‘ (1973).
The new book which is a novel is titled ‘Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth’.
The book published by Bookcraft Publishing, Ibadan was launched at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Wole Soyinka explained why he returned to prose and how long it took him to complete the book while speaking during the book’s presentation.
In his words, “Some themes demand a greater expository approach. So I returned to prose.
“Regarding the theme itself, the answer to that will be forever in terms of deciding. But in reality, when I have to start putting something down, I will say for two years” he added.
Soyinka was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986, making him the first African laureate.
‘Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth’ will be his third novel in his collections which include Plays, Short Stories, Memoirs, Poetry, Essays, Movies and Translations.
