WILDFIRE EMERGENCY IN SOUTH KOREA

Wildfire incidence in south Korea declared a national emergency. Not less than one person has died and about 4,000 people evacuated as a result of the wildfire incidence.

Firefighters from across south Korea, assisted by the soldiers makes effort to extinguish the flames in the north-eastern mountainous region of the country.

The officials report that although the fire has been put under control, others are still burning.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a transformer spark near Goseong in Gangwon Province, north-east of Seoul. More than 800 fire engines were brought from across the country to tackle the fire.

The ministry of defense also reported to have deployed some 16,500 soldiers, 32 military helicopters and 26 military fire trucks to help combat the fire.

“Fortunately, the main fire has been brought under control” the provincial governor Choi Moon-soon said in a radio interview.
