Wike Announces Total Lockdown On 2 Local Governments

As part of measures to check the spread of the Coronavirus in Rivers state, Governor Nyesom Wike has announced a total lockdown on Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas of the State.

Wike who announced the new measure in a broadcast on Monday said the lockdown would be until further notice adding that all residents of the affected local governments must stay at home.

He also banned vehicular movements or gathering of more than two persons in these Local Government Areas with an exemption for those on essential services with appropriate authorization.

The governor warned that any person or institution that violates the lockdown and curfew in affected local governments would face the full wrath of the law.

He also warned the Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital against playing politics with the issue of coronavirus in the State.

The governor said his administration would give N100,000 to any whistleblower for relevant information about any person that violates these directives.

Wike noted that the greatest threat to people’s lives is posed by those residents who are refusing to comply with the established directives and not from outsiders.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has announced via its verified Twitter handle that a total of 2802 cases of Coronavirus have been reported in the country with 417 Discharged and ninety-three Deaths.
