Former secretary to the Ondo State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde has alleged that he helped Governor Akeredolu rig the 2016 elections. He made this allegations in an interview after he resigned on Monday July 6 .
While speaking on a programme on Crest 87.7 Fm, Abegunde insisted that Governor Akeredolu did not win the 2016 governorship elections and that it was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate at the time, Eyitayo Jegede that won the polls.
He revealed that he and some “moneybags” in the All Progressives Congress (APC) had manipulated the results to favour Governor Akeredolu and put him in the governorship seat. Mr. Ifedayo said,
“It was through the powers from me and other APC pillars that made INEC declare Akeredolu as governor after he had lost the election.
He revealed Akeredolu didn’t win the Ondo Gubernatorial elections the he and the others made it possible for him to be in the position.
He also added that the pillars that supported him previously are taking their hands off him and Akeredolu will lose this time around.
Addressing his resignation, Ifedayo Abegunde said; “Akeredolu has reduced the government to the property of his wife, son and in-laws and all government contracts goes to these same set of people from the State.”
He also denied his office receiving a monthly allowance of 5 million naira. He added that he was unable to cater to the needs of those who supported the government due to lack of available funds. He challenged Governor Akeredolu to come forward with evidence of the funds allocated.
The former SSG said that he had recently reported the Ondo State governor to Governor Fayemi of Ekiti State who had promised to help them resolve their differences in Abuja. He continued,
“I remember that I told Fayemi that I was going to spit on the face of Akeredolu if he repeated the lies that he was giving me N5m monthly.
“And I will then return to Akure to resign and as well inform the public of his looting spree.”
Abegunde described the Akeredolu government of Akeredolu’s regime as the worst in the history of Ondo State.
