The United States of America has removed Nigeria from the list of countries “engaging in violation of religious freedom.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken made this known on Wednesday ahead of his visit to Nigeria.
The list which was for “Countries of Particular Concern (CPC)” includes countries that have tolerated or engaged “systematic, ongoing and egregious violations of religious freedom.”
Nigeria was missing in the list of countries which includes China, Eritrea, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, DPKR and Turkmenistan, with Algeria, Cuba, Comoros and Nicaragua on a Special Watch List.
Blinken said the United States is committed to supporting individual’s right to freedom of religious belief and will not waiver in their fight to combating violators and abusers of human right.
