Every day is for the thief, one day is for the owner, so says my kinsmen.
This is the case for Odinoye Wilson, who was arrested by the security unit of the Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU) Ile-Ife. Reports say he terrorized the staff and students of the institution and has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
It is customary for the University students to leave their belongings behind during examinations. The 23-year-old thief confessed to the University security team that he belongs to a 7-man syndicate. These guys specialize in robbing people of their valuables, especially during examinations.
On the 31st of July, 2019, Wilson was caught at the ICT center of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He stole one Itel S31 handset, an iPad, an Itel phone, and a BlackBerry phone, all valued at N252,000. Other items stolen include Tecno Canon X Phone, Tecno Pop Phone, phone chargers, and a cash sum of N5,000.
Wilson was subsequently handed over to the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police, “A” Division, Ile-Ife. He was arraigned in court and he secured a conviction.
In a charge sheet: Commissioner of Police versus Odionye Wilson, No: MIF/305/2019, the Magistrate found the thief guilty on three counts and sentenced him to five years on each count. The sentences are to be run concurrently.
