United Nations, UN, demands that Nigeria and its counterpart- Kenya, give reasons for his arrest, the arrest and extradition of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOP.
The UN Working Group first tagged Kanu’s arrest as illegal and insisted that his detention was taken on an arbitrary consideration.
The Group requested that Nigeria and Kenya provide explanations regarding the IPOB leader’s unsanctioned arrest and supposed abduction.
The various demands were communicated through separate channels, first on August 26, to the two government parties involved.
In both letters delivered, the UN group noted that it also sent the British government and the Nigerian or Kenyan governments to ensure that all parties knew the dealings.
The UN Group comprises scholars and experts who specialise in human rights issues and related laws, all in the bid to look into the irregularities in Kanu’s case.
In June, the Nigerian government had announced Kanu’s arrest and ‘extradition’ from Kenya to continue to face trial in Nigeria.
