The Umbrella Academy: A Second Season Gets Green Lit!

One of Netflix’s newest babies has just been renewed for a second season. The Umbrella Academy is an American comic book series created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. The cinematic version is closely based on the comics title of the same name, it’s first season premiered on February 15th, 2019, with Steve Blackman as show runner, and Way as an executive producer. The entire main cast will be returning for a second season. Season 2 will also have ten episodes like the first season, and each episode will have a run time of one hour.

Since it’s premiere, the Umbrella Academy has been praised by viewers and even the harshest of critics. The show boasts of possessing a talented cast a fresh plot.

According to Looper.com, the plot kicks off with Reginald Hargreeves (Feore, a billionaire who intervenes when a mysterious birth anomaly occurs in 1989. 43 women suddenly go into labor simultaneously, none of whom had actually displayed signs of being pregnant; Hargreeves adopts seven of these children, all but one of whom display superhuman abilities.

With the help of an android nanny named Grace (Robbins), he raises the kids as a superhero team; as the first season begins, Hargreeves’ surviving brood (one has died in the interim, though he too has a part to play) are drawn back together as adults when he dies under suspicious circumstances. Their reunion is decidedly less than happy, as they are threatened by a legion of assassins, consumed with the mystery of their benefactor’s death, and just a bit sidetracked by the looming possibility of the apocalypse.

While the show was strongly criticized for having inconsistent shift in tones ,the chemistry of the cast drew great commendations as did their fresh and innovative take on storytelling & cinematography.
