Ukraine-Russia War: Zelensky Compels Biden Not to Sanction Abramovich

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has pleaded with the United States President, Joe Biden, not to impose sanctions on Chelsea Football Club owner, Roman Abramovich.

President Joe Biden has on Wednesday travelled to meet the Western Leader in Europe on the next phase of action against Russia and its president Vladimir Putin over the attack on Ukraine.

In a recent development, Zelensky noted that the Russian Billionaire Abramovich may be a useful intermediary in peace talks amid the ongoing war between the two countries.

Zelensky Finds Good in Roman

Since the war started in Ukraine, the United Kingdom government has since imposed strict measures on Russians with links to Putin, including Abramovich.

In response to the sanction on Abramovich, his hands have been forced to sell one of his most prized assets in the UK, Chelsea FC, with the proceeds from the sale going to those affected by the war in Ukraine.

Abramovich has also answered a call from Zelensky’s aides to help with peace talks between Russia and Ukraine despite the threats on his assets.

The report added that the White House has reportedly persuaded the US Treasury Department not to go ahead with plans to target Abramovich and his businesses.
