UAE restricts Nigerians
Today, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through its embassy debunked the false claims of restricting Nigerians from entering their country.
Following claims that the country restricted Nigerians to certain visa categories after Hushpuppi’s arrest for suspected fraud, the embassy stated that the country suspended the issuance of visas to all countries to help flatten the COVID-19 curve.
They affirmed that these measures have been put in place since March 17 2020, but as of July 7 2020, the measures were relaxed, allowing visitors from various countries including Nigeria provided they test negative for the PCR test within 92 hours of travel to the middle eastern country.
“In response to recent press and social media reports regarding purported travel restrictions between the UAE and Nigeria, and in an affirmation of the growing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the UAE Embassy in Abuja denies the accuracy of the information contained in these reports.
“At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Arab Emirates took a number of precautionary measures to combat the virus’ spread
including the temporary suspension on issuing visas for all nationalities as of March 17, 2020.
“After entering the recovery phase of the pandemic, the UAE eased some measures on July 7, permitting visitors from various countries to adhere to the necessary precautionary measures, including by showing negative PCR test results within 92 hours of travelling to the UAE. This includes those visiting from Nigeria”
In conclusion, the United Arab Emirates confirms that they are enthusiastic about working hand-in-hand with the Nigerian government to ease relations between the two countries.
