Trump Raises Alarm as Supreme Court Weighs Ruling That Could Strip His Tariff Powers

United States President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning that a forthcoming Supreme Court decision on his authority to impose tariffs could endanger the nation’s security, marking one of his strongest public reactions to the ongoing legal challenge against his trade policies.

In a post shared Monday on his Truth Social platform, Trump cautioned that a ruling restricting presidential power on tariffs would deal a devastating blow to America’s economic and national security posture.

“The biggest threat in history to United States National Security would be a negative decision on Tariffs by the U.S. Supreme Court,” Trump wrote, insisting that such a judgment would leave the country “financially defenseless.”

His remarks come as the Supreme Court continues its review of multiple challenges to his administration’s aggressive tariff strategy a strategy Trump has repeatedly defended as essential to protecting U.S. industries from unfair foreign trade practices. The court began hearing arguments on the matter in early November, prompting intense scrutiny from economists, lawmakers, and global trade partners.

Trump argued that limiting America’s ability to levy tariffs would leave the country at a disadvantage compared to other major economies, referencing Europe’s own tariff policies during a recent visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to China.

“We would not be allowed to do what others already do!” he said, pointing to Europe’s growing willingness to confront China over its widening trade surplus. Macron had recently warned Chinese officials that the European Union could impose tariffs “in the coming months” if Beijing failed to address long-standing trade imbalances.

As the Supreme Court deliberates, analysts warn that the outcome could reshape U.S. trade authority for years to come, determining whether the president retains sweeping discretion to impose tariffs or whether future administrations will face stricter legal limits.

For now, Trump’s warning adds a new layer of tension to an already high-stakes legal battle one with potential global economic repercussions.
