Following Super Eagles victory over Sierra Leona, the Eagles’ skipper William Troost-Ekong who sustained an injury in the game has come out to say he is hopeful that he won’t have to miss much before returning to the play Eagle’s next game which comes up on Monday.
The defender was removed from Thursday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture on a stretcher after intercepting a pass 10 minutes from time. William Troost-Ekong was later replaced by defender Kenneth Omeruo. The Watford centre-back is now facing a race to recover before their next game which is against Sao Tome and Principe on Monday.
Troost-Ekong took to his Twitter handle and tweeted: “First game & first win to set us off on the new AFCON 2023 campaign. Thanks for the messages. I will be back soon.” It was a good start to the Afcon campaign but fans have been criticizing their performance saying they could have done better.
The win was the new Super Eagles’ first win since joining them as they lost against Mexico and Ecourdo of which both were friendly games.
