No fewer than five excavators have died while working at their site on Sunday in Bichi Local Government Area, LGA of Kano State.
The site which is located slightly over 40 kilometers the Kano State metropolis, is exactly at Yanlami village where the sand miners tragically sank and were trapped in the mud, some feet below the sea level.
Giving the names of the deceased, the state fire service which helped put on a rescue mission said they include Alasan Abdulhamid, 22 years old; Muhammad Sulaiman, 35 years old; Masaudu Nasiru, 25 years old; Jibrin Musa, 30 and Jafaru Abdulwahabu, about 30 years of age.
Fire Service Official Narrates How They Found Deceased Excavators
Speaking after the horrible incident, Spokesman of the fire service, SSF Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, said the five excavators were exhumed unconscious and later confirmed dead.
He said they got an emergency call notifying the service of the tragic incident around 10:32am from one Malam Sunusi Badume who reported a puddle incident at Yanlami Village Bichi LGA, KanoState.
“Few minutes later our men from Bichi fire station move down for rescue mission at about 11: 05 am. It was discovered that five men were trapped while working in a puddle trench to gets sand.” He spoke.
Abdullahi later revealed that the deceased combined efforts to help out their friend getting married to get sand to build a house but met their untimely end at the excavation site.
