Tottenham Hotspur came to the end of the road in the UEFA Champions League last 16 round as German side RB Leipzig thrashed them 4-0 on aggregate. The German club came all out in the game last night, they outplayed the English side from the first minute to the end of the game. The club was only formed 10 years ago and they have so far done excellently well.

They humbled Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg when they met in the London Stadium 1-0. They were able to build on the first win to cement their quarter final ticket in the 2019/20 UEFA Champion League. Spurs were without major players due to injury and the skipper goal keeper Hugo Lloris should have done better in the goal post.

The first two goals were error from his part which he could have avoided. He got a hand to both the Leipzig captain’s 20-yard shot and near-post header as well but failed to stop them. The third came from substitute Emil Forsberg first touch to give Leipzig a 4-0 aggregate win.

The 2018/19 finalist met their exit and it could be traced to the fact that many of their key players are nursing one injury or the other. Yesterday’s game makes it the sixth game without a victory in all competition, and are out of all the possible tournament they were in.

They were knocked out of the Carling and Carabao Cup under the supervision of Mauricio Pochettino, and have now been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League and the English FA Cup. Jose Mourinho is considered to be one of the best and most successful coaches in the Champions League, he won the trophy in 2004 with Porto and 2010 with Inter Milan.

Things has now turned against the Portuguese as he has failed to win any of his last eight Champions League knockout games since 2014. This was his heaviest ever Champions League aggregate defeat and it is the first six-game winless run of his 935-game managerial career.

“It was a great moment for the history of the club and for me as a manager. It’s totally deserved we go to the next round. We had control of both games, scored four goals and conceded none. The young coach is the youngest coach to win a UEFA Champions Leeague knockout stage game.

He also said: “Perfection is difficult in soccer because you’ll always make mistakes. But we had control of both legs. Our control was a bit better in the first game. “We were a bit lazy in the first 10 minutes of the second half but we got more powerful after that. If we pushed a little bit more we could have scored more goals. But it’s OK, I’m happy with 3-0. “It’s good if you have a young team who have a lot of self-confidence.”

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho commenting on the Game:

“It’s hard for us to score at the moment. Our first couple of mistakes they score and then it’s very difficult. Their physicality is incredible, their defenders win the duels, they stop the game. They are very fast in attack. They can hurt us all of the time, they deserve to go through. “We made mistakes, mistakes that we have analyzed in previous matches.” Tottenham will now prepare to face Manchester United in the EPL Matchday 30 on Sunday.
