My Top 3 Binge-Worthy TV Series For The Week

Share

The following series are my binge-worthy series for the week, because they are exciting as they are intriguing.

Supernatural

Starring: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padelecki, Misha Collins, Mark A. Sheppard.

Supernatural is one of the longest running horror TV series all of time. Created by Eric Krikpe in 2005, it has gained a massive cult following since then. Its  preliminary seasons follow the lives of two brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. Hunters, who were trained by their father to “Hunt monsters and kill things, the family business”. They set out on a quest after father disappears into thin air mysteriously while he was in pursuit of the demon who killed their mother 20 years ago. Their journey leads them to a path of unimaginable adventures and encounters. The show has come a long way since then and has featured a ton of “supernatural” and other worldly creatures such as Angels, Leviathans, Jinns, Werewolves, Wendigos, Ghosts. Supernatural is currently in its 14th season and so far there’s no sign of slowing down any time soon.

Supernatural has a score of 8.5/10 on IMDb and 90% on rotten tomatoes.

Ozark

Starring: Jason Bateman, Laura Linney & Julie Garner.

Ozark is an original crimes drama series on Netflix created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams. It has two seasons, and was renewed for a third season in October 10, 2018. Each season has 10 episodes with a running time of one hour per episode. The show follows the life of Marty Byrde (Bateman) a financial planner who abruptly relocates with his family to the Ozarks in Missouri.

He needed to launder a total amount of $500million in 5 years as part of a deal he made with a cartel boss to save his life and that of his family. Although this show’s narrative may seem a bit too familiar, it’s definitely worth your while. Previously, it was criticized for being just another “White guy antihero show”. Borrowing elements largely from TV shows like The Sopranos and Breaking bad. It even has a sitcom comedy actor just like breaking bad, who tries to break away from their most popular role by playing a dramatic character.

Ozark has an IMDb score of 8.3/10 and a rotten tomato score of 80%

Bojack Horseman

Starring: Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Amy Sedaris, Aaron Paul and Paul F. Tompkins,

To begin with, Bojack horseman is one of Netflix’s most critically acclaimed adult animation series. It is created by Raphael Bob-Waskberg. In summary, it currently has a five seasons and 6th is slated for approval. Each season has a total of 10 episode each and each episode has a running time of 25 minutes. Interestingly, the show follows the life and adventures of titular character and antihero Bojack Horseman. Bojack starred in the sitcom “Horsin’ around” in the 90’s. Before, he used to be big deal in then but has lost any relevance since the show ended. As a result, he decided to make a huge comeback to the spot light by hiring a ghost writer Diane Nguyen (Alison Brie) to write his autobiography. The show manages to balance the scale between humour and reality.

The dialogue is succinct and though provoking. Also, Bojack horseman is not afraid to address and analyzes various harsh realities of life and human experiences which we often want to ignore. Moreover, using humour to issues of struggling with depression, substance abuse and narcissism, self loathing, sexism and sexual abuse.

Quite obviously, sadness is the shows dominant theme and seem to crank up the emotional ante as the show progresses. Some scenes get way too real, way too fast and that is what makes it a beloved treasure. Most of the shown is set in fictional Hollywood where humans and anthropomorphic animals cohabit.

It has a rating of  8.5/10 on IMDb and a certified fresh 92% on rotten tomatoes.
