In Nigeria of today, running a successful business at the same time pursuing a degree is one thing some student does while on campus. If one would survive the harsh economy, you have to ‘double your hustle’ especially if you don’t belong to the political class. Nowadays, youths who refuses to be categorized as ‘lazy youths’ has found alternatives when on campus.
The 3-5 years could be used to build an enterprise while they also study to be successful in their chosen fields/career. There is little or no chance of been employed after the duration of their course, some have planned for life outside the four walls. Laundry, tailoring, phone and computer repair, interior decoration, make-up, recharge card sales, catering services, sales of small chops and cakes are few of the enterprises seen on or off campuses by students.
In the Nigerian University of today, it is not easy to cope with business together with academic activities. There are impromptu tests used as Continuous Assessment. Attendance also goes with certain marks. How then can someone cope with making money to live on campus and also be successful in a chosen field? Here are few tips to survive in school.
No matter how small the business is, you must get a co-worker who shouldn’t be a fellow university student. You will found young guys who are preparing for UME or other exams, who had just left the secondary schools. An indigene of the University environment is also preferable. Little amount will be paid for this individual (s) and your business goes on smoothly when you are not available.
Some have been left behind because of their inability to relate with other people. For you to have a successful life on campus, you have to make friends particularly your course mates. Make friends who would pass information and give updates on school activities when you are absent. Even without calling, they would know and then help keep your feet on the ground while also growing your business. You just have to know you can’t do it alone.
If you are not a genius and you want to combine school with business on campus, then you have to work hard. The time for making deals and transactions could be replaced with late night studying. Extra-class is also an option. If you can go with these few points, I see you graduating with good grade and also becoming the next CEO.
I wish you good success in all that you do.
