The outward jolly appearances of certain celebrities doesn’t mean some of them do not go through unimaginable psychological battles in their lives. Being unable to cope with the issues that come with the fame. Some celebrities often tend to spiral down a hole of depression.
Often times they find solace in drugs, partying and other exotic activities while others go as far as taking their own lives. These usually serve as painful reminders that success doesn’t make you immune from depression as even the most successful and notable personalities have fallen victims to suicide.
1. Robbin Williams, 63 years old
In 2014, after a particularly rough period of time both personally and professionally. Williams was found dead in his California home on Aug. 11. In 2014 the world was shocked when reports surfaced about the suicide of actor and comedian Robin Williams.
In a statement released by his publicist on the day of his death. She revealed that Williams had “been battling severe depression of late.” She also revealed that he had just been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. A press release issued the day after his death, also, revealed that he had died from “asphyxia due to hanging.” There was also a pocket knife discovered at the scene and several cuts were made on his left wrist.
2. Kurt Cobain, 27 years old
Kurt Cobain dominated the music scene in the 90’s as the lead singer, guitarist and co-founder of rock band Nirvana. However, little did he the world know he wouldn’t live long enough to enjoy his fame and celebrity status.
In the years leading up to his death, Cobain struggled with substance addiction mostly heroin while battling depression at the same time. He also faced a lot of challenges when it came to finding a balance in his professional and personal life; Especially as his marriage to Courtney Love was filled with obstacles.
On April 8 1999 Cobain’s lifeless body was found by an electrician in his property in Seattle, Washington. Autopsy reports claimed he had been dead for three days at least with a high concentration of heroin and traces of diazepam found in his blood. Kurt had a shot gun lying on his body with a very visible head wound.
Prior to his death, Cobain had checked out of a drug rehabilitation facility and had been reported as suicidal by his wife Courtney Love. Although, the case was officially labelled as suicides, other reports claim there are inconsistencies with the evidence which makes it seem more like a murder. Therefore, 25 years later after his demise, Kurt Cobain’s death still remains a mystery
He died at the age of 27 but had already become a cultural icon inspiring a younger generation musicians. The mystery surrounding his death has also inspired several books, documentaries and films.
3. Chris Benoit, 40 years old
Chris Benoit was a WWE celebrity superstar who committed the a heinous act of not only taking his own life but also a double homicide. In 2007, the WWE superstar over a three day period had strangled his wife. As well as heavily drugging his 7 year old son with Xanax and then strangling him too.
Benoist then went ahead to hang himself. The medical reports showed he was battling dementia, and suffered from severe brain damage. Diagnostics were run on Benoit’s brain by Julian Bailes, the head of neurosurgery at West Virginia University. The results revealed that “Benoit’s brain was so badly damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer’s patient.”
