India’s historic elections is currently on the way, with India’s current prime minister Nareda Modi seeking a second term.

The first phase of the mammoth election covers an electorate of 142 million voters across 20 states and federal territories. Voters will decide the fate of 91 candidates.

With indias population of 1.3 billion, over 900 million are eligible to vote.’

Eight constituencies in western Uttar Pradesh saw over 11 percent voting until 9am. Shailendra Pratap Singh, additional district magistrate of Ghazibad adjoining Noida mentions that the voting is going peacefully in the area. Polls are also being held in Kashmir the disputed state and Chhattisgarh, which have faced armed rebellion.

Modi is currently the front runner.

Because of the vastness of India, the election will be held in seven phases, and the elections are expected to conclude on May 19 and results will be announced on May 23.

Security forces are on high alert due to threats of violence. More than 11 election officials, and security forces will be deployed to over a million polling units to conduct ‘the biggest management event of any kind’

Modi and his right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came into power in 2014 promising ‘Good Days’.

Rahul Gandhi, 48, hoping to become the latest prime minister from Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, assisted by his sister, Priyanka, has accused Modi of inciting national disaster.

Gandhi’s congress party has benefited from voter dissatisfaction, winning three key state elections, also winning part of Modi’s core support base of the hindi-speaking heartland of northern India.
