His name was Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche. He was originally from Haiti but moved to France to study engineering. Laroche left Haiti for France at the tender age of 15. While in France, he met Juliette Lafargue, who he later married. The couple were blessed with two children (daughters).

In 1912 Juliette got pregnant. The couple decided to move back to Haiti in pursuit of a better job for Joseph as their family of 4 was swiftly turning into 5

Joseph’s mother bought them tickers for the ship ‘La France’. However, the ship had a ‘no child policy’, hence the family transferred to the Titanic.

The family boarded titanic at Cherbourg as second class passengers. On the night the ship sank, Joseph put his family in lifeboat 10. After securing his families safety, he was never seen again.

Joseph tragically passed in the shipwreck. However, his body was never found.
