When it comes to death defying stunts in big block buster Hollywood movies; there are many actors who choose to perform them by themselves. Many big names in the industry like Jackie Chan who in fact started out his career as a stuntman do their own stunts. Another notable personality is Tom cruise who performs his own stunts to maintain the authenticity of each scene he delivers. Whether it is jumping from an exposing sky scrapper, or jumping onto a moving vehicle.
Interestingly, these scenes require real people to be involved; but the film stars are usually too important to jeopardize their well-being while trying to execute the perfect shot. Tom cruise even sustained a leg injury while trying to perform a leap from the top on a building while filming Mission Impossible 6. Prompting production to be stopped for four months for him to recover. In 2017, Stuntwoman Joi Harris died in a motorcycle crash while filming a scene for the second installment of Deadpool.
Due to these reasons, film makers employ the services of stuntmen. They are also actors who would perform stunts instead of the main celebrities. They don’t bag as much money as actual movie stars, and they often sustain several injuries on the job.
Ryan Reynolds became a hit with fans after the release of Deadpool in 2016; before that he had been casted in so many forgetful movies such as Van Wilder(2002). Not to forget the major disaster that was 2011’s green lantern. However, his big break came when he shocked audience with his funny and comical performance as “Wade Wilson” your favorite foul mouthed merc.
Prior to 2012, Hollywood badboy Ryan Reynolds enacted his own stunts. Up until he sustained an injury to his C5 and C6 vertebrae in his neck during the making of the film “Safe House”. He has stated in many interviews that his doctor strongly advised him against doing his own stunts.
Quite understandably, he has since then retired from performing any major stunts. He revealed in an interview that the major heavy lifting in the action flicks he has been in since 2012 was done by a team of able stuntmen.
