Between relishing the success of his original Netflix directorial debut, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, and expectantly waiting to hear him voice Scar in the forthcoming remake of the Disney film, The Lion King, our very own Chiwetel Ejiofor is keeping us busy by taking another big leap in his career.
It has been reported that the British-Nigerian actor and director has been cast to join Charlize Theron in the upcoming film, The Old Guard.
The Old Guard is adapted from on a five-issue comic book series. It tells the story of a small covert group of immortal mercenaries, who must all fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed.
Chiwetel is expected to play the character of Copley, an ex-CIA operative who hires the fighters for a rescue mission, while Oscar-winner Charlize Theron leads the cast as 5,000-year-old Andronika (Andy) the Scythian, the leader of the warriors and an Amazon who has no idea why she’s still alive.
The action-fantasy film is being directed by the by the director of Love & Basketball, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and alongside Ejiofor and Theron is a long list of talented cast. Some of them include KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin), Harry Melling (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and more.
Production is underway and release date is expected to be made public in no time.
