Taiwo Awoniyi Signs New Deal with Top German Side

Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Taiwo Awoniyi has joined German Bundesliga club side Union Berlin on a permanent transfer from English Premier League side Liverpool. Awoniyi spent last season on loan with the German side in their Stadion An der Alten. He scored five goals and recording four assists in 22 appearances.

The 23-year-old becomes the second Liverpool player after Grujic, who joined FC Porto recently. Liverpool posted on their website stating the departure of the player. The statement says: “The striker returns to the Bundesliga club with whom he spent the 2020-21 season on loan, helping them to a seventh-placed finish after a deal was finalised today.”

“Awoniyi joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2015 and spent the majority of his six years with the Reds out on loan at a variety of European clubs.” “He had spells with FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Royal Excel Mouscron (twice), KAA Gent, FSV Mainz 05 and most recently with Union Berlin last term.”

Taiwo Awoniyi was among Jürgen Klopp’s pre-season training squad in Austria this month before sealing the formalities of his switch. The club has wished the player the best of luck in his new club.
