In an interview, Nollywood actress Ini Edo has confirmed having a daughter through surrogacy.
The 39-year-old mother confirmed this in a recent chat with Stella Korkus, released on Friday.
Ini Edo revealed she chose the path of surrogacy to fulfil her dream of becoming a mother.
She said she chose a donor for her peace and the baby’s peace, as she is scared of the controversies between father and mother over a baby when relationships do not work out.
“For me, it’s the fear of what that would mean for the child. Ideally, it’s marriage then children, but we are not living in an ideal world,” she said.
“I am not someone who allows any situation to control me. I make lemonades out of lemons thrown my way and have no regrets. Life itself is so fragile and short to be striving for perfection. I am well and capable of taking care of my child as I’ve been taking care of myself. I wanted a child and thanked God for the options of surrogacy and donors…”
Despite being private about the baby, which she confirmed having close to a year ago, she said she was hoping to talk about her on her first birthday, “but mischief-makers beat me to it and spoilt the beautiful story with lies”.
When asked about the father and a ‘Kome’ being suspected, she said the rumours make no sense, and it is a lie from the “pit of hell” because Kome has been her friend for years, and he is a responsible family man.
Ini stated that when Nigerians see a single woman close to a guy, it possibly means they are dating.
“I naturally make friends better with guys than women. I have a few female friends, don’t get me wrong, but I relate better with people who are older and way more experienced in life than I am. I relate with People who bring real value to my life .how many people can one possibly date? I have loads of Male friends, most of them; I am friends with their entire family, including wives.”
Ini Edo expressed how expensive the process is, but she is delighted to watch her daughter grow.
“I am in awe of the miracles that God has sent my way, and I am so grateful to be my daughters’ mother.”
She revealed that she is not ready to flaunt her daughter on Social Media as she chose not to put her out there.
She also advised women who are having difficulty with conceiving to tow the path of surrogacy, adding that “I had a series of miscarriages in the past, but that wasn’t my reason for going this route. I still hope to carry babies In my womb in the future, God willing.”
On future marriage, the actress said it is not a priority for her, though she added that marriage is a good thing and most people desire it, but she is not just not ready for the distractions and complications that come with it.
“I’m in the phase of taking care of my child and focusing my positive energies on motherhood and my running businesses. This is all I have time for right now, and shun all negative news or energy,” she concluded.
