Following the 2-1 win of Super Eagles of Nigeria over Sierra Leona former Nigeria international Sam Sodje has come out to criticize the player although they won. According to the ex Nigerian player, he said the way they played was not convincing although they won. It was the first win for Nigeria’s new head coach Jose Peseiro after he lost his first games in charge.
Sierra Leone took the lead less than 15 minutes into the game through Jonathan Morsay before Everton player maker Alex Iwobi equalised a few minutes later. The home team took over the lead five minutes later as Osimhen made it 2-1 to help the Eagles grab a first-half win which later became the final score line.
And reflecting on the game fans are saying they are happy Nigeria won but the performance was below expectations. They said the Super Eagles should do better, especially with the fact that the team has a record which is not pleasing to the ears of the Nigerian football fans when they gave out a four-goal lead the last time they met.
Sam Sodje speaking said they have to give the coach the benefit of the doubt because he is still new in the job and hopes he does better with time but for the 2-1 win, it was not a good fight. The Eagles will continue their campaign as they will play their next qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principe in Morocco on Monday. Nigeria sits in the second place position with Guinea-Bissau leading the group after they came from a goal down to thrash Sao Tome and Principe 5-1.
