CAF, the confederation of African Football is set to pay a reward of N175 million naira which is around $2 million dollars to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for finishing in third place at the just concluded 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019). The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the earnings of all the teams that participated in the Tournament. The Tournament saw the Desert Foxes of Algeria emerging as the winner, invariably getting a reward of $4.5m. The Teranga Lions of Senegal will also be collecting $2.5m as the first runner-up with the silver medals.
Furthermore, the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia and the Nigeria Super Eagle receives $2m each for reaching the semi-finals. While South Africa, Benin, Ivory Coast, and Madagascar gets $800,000 each as Quarterfinalist. Those that made the round of 16 which include Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, Benin Republic, DR Congo, Uganda, Guinea, and Egypt will receive $670,000 each, However, Kenya and other teams that finished third place in their group will also be collecting $620,000 each. However, Alex Iwobi has described Nigeria’s third-place finish at the Tournament as a huge success.
