The Government of the Republic of Benin has extended the detention of the Yoruba Nation Activist Sunday ‘Igboho’ Adeyemo.

The lawyer of the activist, Chief Yomi Aliyyu made this revelation to a media team on Sunday.

Sunday Igboho has no Criminal Charge

Chief Aliyyu revealed that contrary to an initial report that the Yoruba Nation Agitator was said to be released, his detention has been extended by six months.

A lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who secured the release of 12 Igboho’s aides arrested by operatives of the Department of State Service, has on Friday said that Sunday Igboho would be released soon.

Aliyyu said, “Contrary to what was speculated in the news by a lawyer, the government of the Republic de Benin has renewed the incarceration of Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho Oosa for another six months even though there is no criminal charge in their file in Cotonou and without extradition request from Nigeria.”

Aliyyu further stated that he would approach the court of the Economic Community of West African States to challenge the detention.

Sunday Igboho escaped a deadly raid on his Oyo state residence by the operatives of the Department of State Service on July 1, 2021, and he was arrested alongside his wife in Benin Republic while trying to escape to Germany on July 19.
