Strange Disease Hits Kano

Kano state has recorded the outbreak of a yet-to-be-identified disease that has reportedly killed three persons, while 284 others have been infected.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, who confirmed the strange disease outbreak in Kano, said the infected persons had been admitted to 25 health facilities across the state.

Tsanyawa explained that the strange disease was suspected to be caused by the consumption of contaminated flavour and expired instant drink products.

According to the Commissioner, Kano recorded the outbreak recorded on March 10. He added that 101 out of the 284 persons infected had been discharged.

Tsanyawa said the strange disease was recorded in 13 local government areas of the state. He listed the affected local government as Dala, Gwale, Bunkure, Kano Municipal, Fage, Ungogo, Kumbotso, Tarauni, Rano, Dawakinjudu, Dawakin Tofa, Gwarzo and Danbatta.

Everyevery.ng gathered that one of the victims developed abdominal pain, vomiting, jaundice and urine with blood after drinking water bought from a vendor.

However, Tsanyawa confirmed that the Ministry of health had stepped up sensitisation and engagement with stakeholders to create awareness about the strange disease.

The Commissioner said the Ministry is working closely with the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control to scale up surveillance in the 44 local government areas of the state.
