Education in Nigeria received a major boost as Stanbic IBTC, a commercial bank has concluded arrangements to award scholarship to 30 top candidates in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) giant stride made by Stanbic IBTC was disclosed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The board said the bank also rewarded the candidates with N15 million to pursue their ambition for a higher education in any tertiary institution in the country. The top 30 candidates are expected to receive N500,000 each.
This information was disclosed in JAMB’s weekly bulletin in Abuja. The bulletin stated that the bank’s delegation was led by it’s Corporate and Investment Banking and Marketing Manager, Mrs Bridget Oyefeso Odusami. She explained that the scholarship for the thirty top candidates were part of the activities lined up to mark the bank’s 30th year anniversary which is scheduled to hold later this year.
Asides the top 30 candidates that would be rewarded by the bank as well as the best virtually impaired candidates from the whole federation for the scholarship. According to Odusami, the essence of the scholarship is to enable candidates desirous of tertiary education so as to pursue their dreams under a favorable condition.
The criteria used to select the top 30 UTME candidates were also stated. The candidates must have scored a minimum of 250 and above in the 2019 UTME. He/she must also possess five credit passes in his/her O’level results as well as meeting other specified criteria necessary for admission.
JAMB, through it’s registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede gave kudos to the bank for their initiative stating that it would go a long way in promoting the educational careers of the beneficiaries. He also said that the move was a way of giving back to the society through investment in human development .
The registrar therefore called on other corporate organizations to emulate Stanbic IBTC so as to bring succour to hardworking candidates wishing to advance their educational career. No doubt about this, the move by Stanbic IBTC will bring back commitment and hope for young people who had given up on the Nigerian educational system.
