The controversial musician made his position known in a post shared on social media, where he admitted that his decision to support Obi was mainly because they share the same ethnic background.

According to Speed Darlington, his support has little to do with how intelligent he considers Obi or the quality of his speeches. Instead, he said he wants to support him because he is Igbo.

His statement has generated different reactions, with some Nigerians questioning his decision to place ethnic identity above a politician’s ability and performance.

The rapper also mentioned other political figures who may be interested in contesting the presidency, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

He questioned what both politicians had achieved after spending several years in public office. He also expressed reservations about the possibility of Nigeria having another Fulani president.

Beyond his comments about the presidential hopefuls, Speed Darlington criticised Nigerian politicians for continuing to use road construction as a major campaign promise.

He argued that it was embarrassing that politicians were still making promises about roads in 2026 instead of focusing on bigger developmental issues.

His comments have since sparked conversations about tribal loyalty, political choices and what Nigerians should consider when choosing their next leader.

The 2027 election is already generating discussions, even before the official campaign period begins.
