Spanish Super Cup was Played in Saudi Arabia, why?

The both games were played in Saudi Arabia and the questions has been why was it played there and not in Spain as usual. Many said is because of money, Barca coach Valvade had earlier stated that “we are here because of money.” The Spanish FA has not confirmed any financial details of how much it cost to have them to play there. This is the latest big sporting event to be held in Saudi Arabia, following the recent Anthony Joshua-Andy Ruiz Jr boxing match. The Italian Super Cup between Juventus and Lazio last month and a friendly between Brazil and Argentina.

The country has sought to stage sporting and entertainment events in a bid to attract visitors and move away from its oil-dependent economy. The Spanish Super Cup has been moved from the summer so it does not disrupt clubs’ lucrative pre-season summer tours.

Many football fans and organizations are really not happy with the new development. They are not happy with the decision to host the event in Saudi Arabia. Not only fans are angry over the location of the match, one team is also not happy about the sharing ratio of the money earned. Valencia have criticised the fact they will only earn 2m euros, compared to six million for Barcelona and Real Madrid, and three million for Atletico. Their fans were also not given enough slot.
