The police salary increase has attracted a lot of reactions, including that from Sowore Omoyele, the Publisher of Saharareporters newspapers.
The Human rights activist has said Nigerians had influenced the increment, adding that it was as a result of the #EndSARS protests that the Federal Executive Council, FEC, fulfilled the demand.
It would be recalled that On Wednesday, December 15, FEC approved a 20% increment for policemen and would take effect soon as possible.
Sowore said police officers got their salaries raised because protesters fought for them, and despite their help, policemen still “assault peaceful protesters.”
“In October 2020, an #EndSARS revolt visited Nigeria against Nigeria Police Force’s brutality, the same, and the NPF were deployed alongside soldiers brutally to put down the rebellion.” He pointed.
Today, I was part of a peaceful #NorthIsBleeding protest to ask for the legal protection of lives and property in the northern parts of Nigeria.
The activist noted that officers should be well-coordinated and desist from harassment of Nigerian citizens so their blood and struggle would not have been in vain with the increase.
