A soldier passed on in active service in Nigeria, and his family was supposed to claim a check in his name. Unfortunately, the second son who made moves to access the benefits had a tedious experience in the process.
Despite the service rendered to the country, the Nigerian Army, some harmful elements in their midst, denied the young man the right to claim his late father’s benefits.
Narrating his ordeal during a live community radio programme in Abuja on Tuesday, 12, 2021, the son (name withheld) noted that the family only gained access to twenty thousand naira (N20,000), which was issued through a cheque.
He hinted that a particular army official (name withheld) ensured that the deceased man’s family did not have any access to an available two hundred thousand.
The son said this particular official frustrated all efforts to receive the cash owed to the family and discouraged other promising army officers who attempted to help the family.
However, he was advised by the radio host to engage the Military Pension Board for proper documentation and processing of the gratuities.
Also, the organisation, in its routine function, offered to assist the young man in the pursuit of his father’s benefits and immediately directed him to a military official who pays keen interest in treating cases like the one of Yahaya and his family.
