The federal government has warned Nigerians to secure and protect their National Identification Number, NINs.
Reacting Technical Implementation Committee report under the Ministerial Task Force, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami urged subscribers to desist from selling or allowing others to use their NINs for registration.
According to a statement issued by Director Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, the Minister warned that any act committed with the SIM would be traced to the NIN owner.
At the end of a review meeting, the Committee reported significant progress in the ongoing SIM-NIN enrolment.
It stated that the mobile operators had collected 47.8 million NINs so far, with an average of three to four SIMs per subscriber.
Meanwhile, Pantami expressed satisfaction with this commendable achievement and the commitment demonstrated by all stakeholders and citizens.
He further advised them to submit their NINs before 9th February 2021 deadline as he also urged the technical team to fast-track the processes so that the project is delivered soonest.
