Manchester City will be without record goalscorer Sergio Aguero as they face major Ligue 1 side who knocked them out in last year’s Uefa Champions League Marseille on Tuesday. According to reports, the striker could be out for about four weeks, the player just returned to the English Premier League after a long time out with injury.
The 32-year-old Argentine has only played just three games since recovering from a knee operation, and now he has sustained a muscle injury in their last game which ended 1-1 against West Ham United. Centre-back Aymeric Laporte has fully recovered and he was among the players who travelled to France for City’s second Champions League Group C game and Kevin De Bruyne is in contention to start after Saturday’s substitute appearance.
Manchester City still has a list of players who are still in the injury room, the likes of Fernandinho, Benjamin Mendy and Nathan Ake will all miss the encounter at the Stade Velodrome as they are sidelined with one injury or the other. With Sergio Aguero joining Gabriel Jesus on the sideline now they only have summer signing Torres to bank on as an striker except they will be using Raheem Sterling as point man.
Concerning Sergio Aguero, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said: “It depends on the injury. When it is minimum it will be 10-15 days. If it is longer it will be three weeks to a month. I don’t know.” He also said: “When you are four or five months out (with) knee problems, always you have a risk when you come back.” We tried to handle it as well as possible, just 50-55 minutes a game, but it was not enough to get fit for the next games. He will be back as soon as possible,” he concluded.
