Senator Akpabio Emerges as 2023 ‘President of the Senate’ as TJ Abbas Declared Speaker

In a major political development, Senator Godswill Akpabio has emerged as the President of the Senate in the 2023 Presidential Election. The election took place at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Wednesday, 22nd June 2023.

Senator Akpabio, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, won the election by a wide margin against his opponent, Senator Ali Ndume.

He secured the support of a majority of his colleagues in the Senate who backed him for the position. In his acceptance speech, Senator Akpabio expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their support and promised to work towards the betterment of the Senate and Nigeria as a whole.
