The former Governor of Abia state and present senator representing Abia North Senatorial district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has been released from the Kuje Correctional Facility in Abuja.
The senator was convicted For allegedly looting N7.65b belonging to Abia state in December of 2019 by the Federal High Court in Lagos, and was serving a 12-year sentence.
On Tuesday 2nd June 2020, Justice Mohammad Liman of the Federal High Court in Lagos State ordered the release of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, however a retrial of his case was ordered.
It was gathered that he was released at about 7:30 pm on Wednesday 3rd June.
