Former Chelsea and Barcelona Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o is the current Cameroon FA president, has expressed his opinion that former Super Eagles skipper, Jay Jay Okocha is on the same level as Barcelona and AC Milan legend, Ronaldinho. According to Samuel Eto’o, who played alongside Ronaldinho at Barcelona, Okocha didn’t receive as many accolades during his career and described it as “the injustice of world football.”
Austin Okocha enjoyed a successful career during which he won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 with the Super Eagles. He also helped Nigeria in winning Africa’s first Olympic gold at Atlanta ’96. He also helped Bolton Wanderers rise from Championship to the English Premier League.
Even though Ronaldinho won two FIFA World Player of the Year awards and a Ballon d’Or, Okocha never came close to claiming any of those global honours. But Eto’o insists that Okocha was as talented as the Brazilian playmaker. According to him, he said: “It’s the injustice of world football.” ”They are in the same class.” “What we saw Ronaldinho do a few years ago, Jay-Jay (Okocha) had done 10 or 15 years before and he never had the recognition of others. And that’s what happens when it comes to Africa.”
