Sad: Five Die In Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway Car Accident

In a sad occurrence last Sunday afternoon, where an auto car crash killed five individuals.

The accident occurred at Olorunshogo village Kobape-Siun axis, along the expressway. A Nissan Primera having the registration No. KTU 875 DP suddenly lost control, lefts its track, somersaulted and rammed into a stationary Volvo truck numbered LAR 119 YD, parked off road from behind, inward Abeokuta.

According to an eyewitness account, it was reported that the driver of the Nissan could not control the car as it appears he was heavily drunk.

Confirming the accident, spokesman of Ogunyemi state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), commander Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the bodies of the victims who were on their way to Abeokuta from Sagamu have been deposited at the General hospital, Iyaye, Abeokuta.

Previous Incidents;

Accidents along that route have been of common occurrence in the past few months. Back in February, it was reported that eight people including a young girl lost their lives.

Meanwhile, an expectant mother and a boy sustained injuries in the crash.

Based on the accident report, the accident occurred at about 12:50pm. The driver of the Blue Toyota Corolla Sport with the registered number, AKD 649 FP, lost control and rammed into a stationary truck.

Seven occupants died on the spot, while the young girl passed away in the hospital.

Akibiyi, blamed this accident on excessive speeding and lost control, added that the driver was also drunk.

He said;

“We learnt the Corolla vehicle was inbound Abeokuta on the Old Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway when the accident happened. The driver who was also drunk. Could not control the vehicle as it rammed into the truck.

“Post crash search have revealed the a pregnant woman and other survivors have been referred to FMC, Idi-Aga, Abeokuta.”

Although, the driver of the trailer was not in the vehicle when the incident occurred, he made himself available and was taken to the Ewekoro Divisional Police Station.

Awareness is being pushed into drunk driving in Nigeria.
