Former Manchester United and Real Madrid star player Cristiano Ronaldo have finally opened up about his future with his national team Portugal. The Portugal captain was coy about his future as he responded to his side’s World Cup exit following their 1-0 loss to African side Morocco.
The 37-year-old forward was in tears as he walked back to the dressing room after they were beaten by Morocco. Cristiano Ronaldo played as a substitute, having also come off the bench in the last-16 win against Switzerland.
After he left the pitch, he took his social media handle and wrote: ”To win a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career.” He also said: “Unfortunately, yesterday [Saturday] the dream ended.” The former Juventus player left Manchester United by mutual agreement before the 2022 World Cup after he heavily criticised the club.
This is likely his last World Cup which is why he is very upset. He said: “I just want everyone to know that a lot was said, a lot was written, a lot was speculated, but my dedication to Portugal didn’t change for an instant.” “I was always one more player fighting for everyone’s goal and I would never turn my back on my teammates and my country.”
Concluding his write-up he said: “For now, there’s not much more to say. Thank you, Portugal. Thank you, Qatar. The dream was beautiful while it lasted… Now, we have to let time be a good adviser and allow everyone to draw their own conclusions.”
