Rita Dominic, one of the most decorated actresses in Nollywood, reveals why she quit Nollywood to become a Caregiver in the UK.
While in a conference, Dominic reveals why she quit acting to become a caregiver in the UK. The Nollywood actress confessed that in 2001 and 2002, she stopped acting and moved to the UK.
She confessed that her decision was due to unpalatable trauma from losing friends she considered to be family. “It was a very dark period in my life”, the 48-year-old disclosed.
She confessed that after falling out with her friends and dealing with many issues, she got frustrated and gave up acting. “I needed to get out and just leave that space for a minute”, the actress confessed.
The actress relocated to London, where she took up caregiving to make ends meet.
“While in London, I was trying to make ends meet. I started working in a care home as a caregiver for adults with special needs”, she confessed.
She disclosed that many may view her story as tragic and a step down from stardom, but she sees it differently.
“While some may view this as a step-down, I don’t. You see, taking care of others brought me joy and purpose at a time I needed it most”, she revealed.
The actress also revealed how she had taken care of her parents when they were ill. Their incontinence did not phase her, and so she carried that attitude into working as a caregiver.
Dominic is a far cry from being broke in London, and we can’t help but look at this story in admiration.
