A dark time for the family of the Adichie’s as a popular feminist and award-winning Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie loses mother barely a year after her father died.
A close family source disclosed this earlier today. According to the source, Mrs Grace Ifeoma Adichie (nee Odigwe) had no illness symptoms before she suddenly died on the 1st of March, 2021 at the age of 78.
The deceased, Lady Grace Ifeoma, was the first female registrar of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) and was married to Sir James Nwoye Adichie for close to 60 years.
Chimamanda Adichie is not one to put her family in the spotlight, but the few times she spoke about them, one could tell her parents’ profound impact on her life.
The close family source said, “It was very sudden and we are devastated,”
Lady Ifeoma is survived by her six children; Ijeoma, Uchenna, Chuks, Okechukwu, Chimamanda and Kenechukwu, alongside 9 grandchildren, in-laws and other relatives.
