Reactions Trail Funke Akindele, JJ Skill’s Sentence

Reactions have continued to trail the sentence of Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJ Skills, to 14 days community service by the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ court.

The couple who were also fined 100, 000 naira each was sentenced on Monday for flouting the sit at home and social distancing orders which was announced to put an end to the further spread of Coronavirus, COVID-19.

While reacting to the sentence, a twitter user faulted the Judge for allowing so many people into the court’s premises, thereby contradicting the social distancing order.

A twitter user, @drpenking said, The Judge trying Funke Akindele should start by sentencing himself to prison for allowing all that crowd enters the court., They were up to 100 people who partied in her house were even like twenty-something. Which kind of country is this? 

Another twitter user, @DrJoeAbah, noted that the issue involving the actress and her husband was straightforward “This Funke Akindele issue is very straightforward. The woman broke the law. She was arrested and charged to court within the time allowed by the law, She pleaded guilty to the charges. She was sentenced by the court—end of story. 

@DoctorEmto said, Funke’s husband should have taken the whole blame to himself. It was his birthday. All he had to do was say “leave my wife out of this. She was just around, I called for the party”… Na him do birthday, na him carry am enter Instagram.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Government is to prosecute all those who attended Saturday’s birthday party hosted by the Nollywood actress

The state Attorney-General, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) ), said that they would be prosecuted for flouting social distancing regulation of the state.

The attorney-general said that efforts were being intensified to arrest all those who attended the party held on Amen Estate in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

According to him, all the attendees will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Aje-Afunwa, while sentencing the couple, had ordered that they should provide the personal details of the attendees of the party.
