The EURO2020 ended Sunday, 11th July, with Italy as the winner after a 1-1 match that led to a 3-2 penalty shootout with England. Three black footballers Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, lost their penalties and following this, the Trio were racially abused online by angry fans.
Asides racially abused online, the mural honouring Rashford in his home town of Withington got vandalised in a ‘racially aggravated’ act of vandalism. Despite been racially abused, there has been an outpour of love on his social media page, and local people have been posting words of encouragement on the mural to show their support.
Just after the United player came out to apologise to his team, sports social media publisher SPORTbible, launched a giant digital billboard of the three players wearing crowns with the strapline ‘never apologise for who you are, a way to show support to the three players.
