Ralf Rangnick Gives Reasons for Rashford Struggles

The Manchester United boss, Ralf Rangnick, has insight into why the England forward Marcus Rashford is struggling.

The England international had a forgettable game with poor decision-making during the match, with some fans meeting his substitution with sarcastic cheers.

Marcus Rashford has gone 11 games without a goal and has not found the net since scoring in the 3-0 win at Tottenham on 30 October.

Rashford Needs to Score – Manager

After qualifying for the fourth round of the FA cup, Rangnick was asked why the academy graduate was underperforming.

The interim manager said: “Actually, I don’t know. I think he’s trying hard. In training, he was doing well in the last couple of days; that’s why he was quite rightly in the starting XI.

“In the first half, we found him quite often, but we also tried to get him into the box.

“In the second half, that was not that often the case, and that’s why at the end of the game, I decided to make two changes with Anthony Elanga and Jesse Lingard.

“It was crucial to progress into the next round. Yes [confidence is necessary] especially for strikers, it’s essential that they score goals on and off, that there are moments of success.

“For strikers, it is important to score goals. It would be good for Marcus to score, but as long as he’s trying and training well, I don’t see a problem.”

United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has spoken repeatedly about his side’s need to start controlling matches.
But this latest effort did not indicate they know how to do it.

Repeatedly, the hosts gave away possession under little pressure to the extent that Villa had the majority of it.

The ‘Red Devils’ would be looking forward to a much-improved performance when they visit the Villa Park on Saturday in a late Kick-off.
