Protest Hits Abuja, Lagos Over Sexual Violence Against Women
Protesters made up of women mainly have taken to the streets of Abuja and Lagos to express their frustrations over several cases of rape and sexual violence against women. Recently, there has been a wave of awareness about rape and other forms of sexual violence. This began after the case of Uwaila Vera Omozuwa who was raped and killed in her church where she went to read.
There was also the case of Tina who was shot in Lagos by policemen who were shooting without cause in the city.
Also, adding to the reason for the protest was the case of barakat Bello who was raped and killed in her house in Ibadan, Oyo State. The 18-year-old girl was a 100 level student of Federal College of Animal health and Production, Ibadan.
These and more are some of the cases and Nigerian women have led an organised protest in Abuja and Lagos to demand justice for them. They are also using the opportunity to raise awareness against rape and other forms of violence against women.
In the past week also, many women have come up and they are speaking up against their abusers. A lot of the stories have been shared using various social media platforms especially Twitter. Some of the prominent accusations were those of Uti Nwachukwu, Comedian Ebiye Victor, Perruzi, and Dbanj.
Hopefully, the protest will result in Justice for the victims, those known and those unknown.
Everyevery.ng says STOP RAPE!!!
